The Knuckles Mountain Range is located between Matale and Kandy and is so named because it resembles the knuckles of a clenched fist. The terrain consists of grasslands, rugged mountains, trickling streams, cascading waterfalls and encompasses an area of 18512 hectares. Ideal for hiking and trekking, the mountain range was marked as a World Heritage Conservation Area, due to the need to preserve the area’s natural beauty and biodiversity. Trekking the mountains and reaching its stunning peak are one of the most popular activities for adventure seekers. The ideal time to visit Knuckles is from June to September weather is fairly pleasant and rain is a very rare possibility.

Knuckles Peak Trekking (Start 6.45 AM - 16 KM Both Way)
Trek the five iconic peaks of Knuckles Mountain Range with our trained hiking guides. The terrains within each of these mountains changes as frequently as the weather in Sri Lanka. You’ll have to endure through grasslands, rugged mountain peaks snaked with streams, and decorated with waterfalls. Those looking to conquer all five peaks, should consider camping in the mountains for the best experience. Some of the most popular hiking trails are Mini World’s End from Deanston, the trail to Kalupahana from Meemure village and the trail to Dothatlugala from Deanston. The Minneriya National Park has recently gained popularity after being featured on NatGeo for the largest congregation of wild elephants; dubbed, The Gathering. Visit between the months of July to October; where the season is dry, which draws more than 300 elephants to travel to the nearby Minneriya Tank in search of water. Besides elephants, the park is also home to crocodiles, purple-faced langur, painted stork and a plethora of colourful birds, both endemic and migratory. Embark on an exciting safari to watch Sri Lanka’s gentle giants in their natural habitat.
